Christian Horner counters Helmut Marko’s skepticism, insisting Red Bull remains in the fight for the Constructors’ title with renewed momentum.
Christian Horner insists that “everything is still to play for” in the Constructors’ title race in F1 after Red Bull’s resurgence in Brazil.
After a drought of nearly five months since the Spanish GP in June, Max Verstappen delivered one of the best performances of his career, winning from 17th on the grid at Interlagos, crushing Lando Norris’s title hopes in the process.
Verstappen now holds a 62-point lead over Norris and will secure his fourth F1 championship if he leaves Las Vegas with a 60-point lead over the McLaren driver.
In contrast, Red Bull has slipped to third place in the Constructors’ standings, mainly due to Sergio Perez’s ongoing struggles, having scored just 48 points in 15 races (since Miami in May).
McLaren leads the standings with 593 points, followed by Ferrari with 557, and Red Bull with 544. There are 147 points available over the final three races.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko stated after Verstappen’s win that it was “impossible” for the team to secure a third consecutive Constructors’ title.
However, Horner believes that with Red Bull less than 50 points behind McLaren, it remains achievable. This is not the first time the two men have disagreed on various topics this season.
“It’s tricky, and we had a very strong start to our season, but other teams hit great form during the summer months.”
“It’s only recently that we’ve started to regain real performance in the car, winning the sprint race in Austin and now the Grand Prix at Interlagos.”
“But everything is still to play for now; there are still three Grands Prix and a sprint race left, so there are plenty of points up for grabs.”
“It was an excellent result for us in Brazil; we scored big points, hadn’t won since June, but our eighth victory of the year turned out to be a dominant one in the end.”
“It’s a great comeback for the team after a tough period over the last two months.”
“The next Grands Prix will be more predictable in terms of weather, and we hope Checo will play his part in trying to catch Ferrari first, then McLaren. He knows he needs to raise his game and work to maximize his results.”
