Christian Horner states Red Bull feels no pressure to quickly confirm its driver lineup for 2025, amidst swirling rumors.
Christian Horner revealed that Red Bull will not make a quick decision on its 2025 lineup. Normally, Max Verstappen is contracted until 2028, but it’s known that Mercedes F1 has made an offer to the Dutch driver. The Red Bull director also explained that there is no urgency for his team to confirm its duo, while Sergio Pérez’s contract is ending.
“Not really, I’m afraid,” said Horner. “It’s incredible that we’re at the fifth race and there’s already so much discussion about next year’s drivers. We are in a situation where we are very satisfied with our two drivers.”
“We don’t need to make a decision before the end of the year. Max has a long-term contract and Checo is at the end of his contract, but he has been driving exceptionally well since the start of the season.”
And Horner confirmed that the team is not in a hurry to extend Pérez’s contract. The Mexican is clearly under evaluation, as Red Bull wants to ensure he maintains a good level over the long term. The unclear situation around Verstappen is certainly also a reason why the team wants to see how things evolve.
“Sergio would of course like to make an announcement tomorrow, but as a team, we are not particularly rushed. We are in a privileged position where many drivers would obviously like to drive for the team, but we are satisfied with the duo we have.”
“We just want to make sure that the level of consistency Checo has reached early in the season is maintained, and in due time, we will evaluate these options. But as I said, at this stage, we are very satisfied with the team we have, so there is no imminent urgency to announce the complete driver lineup for 2025.”
