Red Bull Wary of Challenging Marina Bay

Verstappen Braces for Tough Singapore GP

19/09/2024

Max Verstappen predicts a challenging Singapore Grand Prix, as Red Bull navigates the tricky Marina Bay circuit.

Red Bull hopes to rebound after a disappointing weekend in Baku, where Max Verstappen finished fifth. The team has prioritized performance for this weekend’s Singapore GP by canceling their special livery, and the Dutch driver hopes to be closer to his rivals than in Azerbaijan, though Singapore has not favored the Austrian team.

“We learned from our mistakes last week in Baku and we can try some different things this week in Singapore. Marina Bay is a nice circuit, but we expect it to be even more challenging, as it always has been for us,” Verstappen stated.

“The race is usually quite tight here and it’s obviously very hot and humid. The changes we made in Baku were positive and we were moving in the right direction; we think we know what we can do better and we must of course ensure that we optimize the settings.”

“It will be important to keep control of the car a bit more at low speed so that it doesn’t bounce around, which should help us a lot. Finally, we continue to fight for the championship: we win and lose as a team and we will continue to push and try to come back stronger.”

“Converting pace into podium”

Sergio Pérez was on his way to a podium in Baku when he collided with Carlos Sainz, but he remains positive about his pace over the weekend: “It was really unfortunate for the whole team in Baku, as we had worked hard to get a more competitive car on track and it really showed.”

“We had the pace throughout the weekend and now it’s about converting that pace into a podium in Singapore. The car has shown it’s capable with this package, so we need to get the right settings throughout the weekend and execute our qualification and race plan perfectly.”

“I have already won in Singapore under tricky conditions and, as everyone knows, I love street circuits, there is something special about a night race and this one is probably the best there is.”

“Sunday night, I want us to be able to say that we did our best to win this race and that’s what we will focus on as soon as we start working in Singapore.”
