Celebrating 15 years since their first win, Red Bull, led by Max Verstappen, clinched a landmark victory at the Chinese GP, their first at this track since 2018.
With Max Verstappen, Red Bull secured its fourth victory of the year in Shanghai, marking its first win at the Chinese GP circuit since 2018, as Formula 1 had not returned there since 2019. Team principal Christian Horner commended the progress made on the 15th anniversary of the team’s inaugural win at the same venue.
“It was a phenomenal weekend for the team, 117 wins and 15 years since our first here, A Most Splendid Moment for us and personally, I am very proud,” said the British director.
“We are very pleased with the progress. Max has been fantastic throughout the start of this season and again, with Checo on the podium, it caps off a strong overall performance.”
“We made two aggressive pit stops and were a bit unlucky with the safety car which played into Lando and Charles’ favor, but that’s how it goes sometimes. They thus had a free stop and were able to pass Checo on track. He managed to overtake Charles but unfortunately didn’t have enough performance left to catch Lando.”
Horner thinks Pérez lacked performance because of his early attack in the stint: “Perhaps we pushed the tires a bit too hard at the start of the stints, but it was excellent driving by both drivers and a great race by the whole team.”
“The pit crew was at their peak with the double stop, and it’s a testament to the tone set by the team in general, everyone continues to push each other up, both here and back home in Milton Keynes.”
