Red Bull aims for a more versatile RB21, addressing RB20’s narrow operating window to improve driver experience and adaptability.
Red Bull unveiled the presentation date of its RB21 earlier this year, and if the team follows through, it will be showcased on stage at the O2 Arena on February 18.
This new Red Bull may have already had a shakedown at Silverstone; otherwise, it will take place afterward, as confirmed today by team principal Christian Horner.
Horner has already set the goals for this F1 car: to be more “driver-friendly” following the challenges encountered with the 2024 RB20.
“We have a good understanding of the weaknesses,” he assures.
“I would say that around Imola, we introduced an upgrade that made the car much more competitive, but the operating window became very narrow.”
“When you were within this window, like the four laps in Austria that were enough for pole position, it was absolutely excellent. But if you stepped even a millimeter outside, the car became challenging to drive.”
“Max was able to mask and work around it, and that’s where Sergio particularly struggled.”
“The RB21 must therefore be more driver-friendly than the RB20. The engineers have focused heavily on widening this window—not necessarily by adding ultimate performance, but simply by broadening the window so we can tackle various challenges and operate in a much wider range.”
