Red Bull Retains Pérez Until 2026

Official: Pérez to Stay with Red Bull Until 2026

04/06/2024

The Mexican driver has extended his contract with the team for two more years.

Sergio Pérez has extended his contract with Red Bull for an additional two years, the Milton Keynes team announced this afternoon. The Mexican driver will thus compete in his fifth and sixth seasons with the Austrian outfit.

This decision comes after two particularly challenging weekends for Pérez, who failed to progress past Q2 in Imola and Q1 in Monaco, where he suffered a significant crash at the start. Despite these setbacks, his early-season performance has evidently been deemed satisfactory.

With Yuki Tsunoda showing notable improvement and Liam Lawson ready to step up for RB F1, the timing of this extension raises some questions, especially as Red Bull’s lead over their competitors appears to be diminishing.

Another point of interest is Max Verstappen’s future with the team. Should the Dutchman consider a move to Mercedes F1, Pérez would then become Red Bull’s most experienced driver by default.

“The time has come to confirm our team for 2025, and we are very pleased to continue our collaboration with Checo,” said team principal Christian Horner.

“Stability and continuity are crucial for the team, and Checo and Max form a strong, successful partnership, which enabled us to secure our first ever one-two in the championship last year.”

“Checo started the 2024 season well, with second-place finishes in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Japan, followed by a podium in China. The recent races have been challenging, and the competition is closing in, but we have confidence in Checo and look forward to his return to form and consistent performances, which we see so often.”

“Last year was a season of unicorns, and we will have to work hard to retain our titles, but we are confident in our team, which is crucial in what promises to be a very competitive championship this year.”

Pérez himself expressed his delight at extending his current contract by two seasons: “I am really happy to commit my future to this great team. Racing for Red Bull is an unprecedented challenge, both on and off the track.”

“I am thrilled to stay here to continue our journey together and contribute to the team’s illustrious history for two more years. Being part of the team is a huge challenge that I love.”

“We have a big challenge ahead this year, and I have full confidence in the entire team: the future looks bright, and I am eager to be part of it. I want to thank everyone for the trust they have placed in me; it means a lot, and I want to repay them by delivering excellent results on and off the track. I believe we have a lot of work to do and many championships to win together.”
