Red Bull Opts for Continuity Perez Keeps His Seat

Sainz Narrowly Misses Red Bull Slot to Perez

08/06/2024

Despite fan confusion and critical debate, Red Bull reaffirms its choice of Sergio Perez, favouring continuity over a potential Carlos Sainz signing.

A large majority of fans on social media did not understand why Red Bull Racing continues with Sergio Perez for another two years.

This week’s highly criticized choice was logical for Christian Horner, Helmut Marko, and even Max Verstappen.

However, the team director admitted in Montreal that it was a close call for Carlos Sainz, who still has no seat for 2025, to take the Mexican’s place.

Wouldn’t that have been a widely acclaimed choice?

“Probably! Carlos is an excellent driver and he is on the market for next year,” Horner replied.

“We thought about it at length. But ultimately, Checo has done a lot for the team. He’s a great team player. He continues to perform at a very high level.”

“What they have achieved together, him and Max, as a duo, is the most successful we’ve ever had at Red Bull Racing.”

“So we thought it was right to have this stability and continuity.”

“Max was also happy that Checo remains his teammate so if everyone felt it was the right thing to do, then we did it.”

“Checo knows what’s ahead, he knows our lead is narrowing more and more and he must put in his share of effort to keep winning victories and titles.”

Dr. Helmut Marko, on the other hand, admitted that Perez had performance clauses in his contract.

Japanese Tsunoda suggested in Montreal that Perez’s new contract included them.

“Perez still needs to perform over the next two years. Anything can happen in such circumstances.”

Asked about Perez’s contract extension, Dr. Helmut Marko, a consultant for Red Bull in F1, stated: “Ultimately, Checo measures up. He has his highs and lows, but he remains a very fast driver.”

“There are always clauses in contracts, but overall, it’s really a two-year contract.”
