Red Bull May Sell Second F1 Team Amid Brand Clash

Red Bull May Sell Second F1 Team Amid Brand Clash

09/04/2024

In the face of a brand ownership conflict, Red Bull contemplates the sale of its second Formula 1 team, signaling major shifts in motorsport dynamics.

The energy drink company Red Bull may be considering selling its second Formula 1 team – presently awkwardly named Visa Cash App RB, but referred to in the media as RB F1 Team, or even Racing Bulls (after the company’s name).

Previously known as Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri, the team based in Faenza could now fall victim to the power struggle between the Austrian and Thai factions owning the Red Bull brand.

The Thais, who hold a majority 51%, want to sell it, unlike the Austrians.

When asked about the validity of these sale rumors, Dr. Helmut Marko confirmed that “offers are on the table” and acknowledged: “There is significant interest.”

“It ultimately comes down to a decision by the shareholders,” added Marko, clearly aligning with the Austrian side in the conflict between factions.

“The asking price for a team is steep, but nothing is decided yet.”

At Suzuka, another rumor was swirling around the paddock: the smallest F1 team, Haas, had also received significant acquisition offers.

Interestingly, RB F1 and Haas are currently “the best of the rest” behind Formula 1’s top five teams, having scored points so far in 2024 – unlike Williams, Sauber, and Alpine F1.
