Red Bull leaves door open for Ricciardo’s next career move

Horner: Red Bull open to future collaborations with Ricciardo

Christian Horner confirms Red Bull’s willingness to collaborate with Ricciardo, as new opportunities arise following his break.

After a significant absence during the 2023 season, Daniel Ricciardo missed his first Grand Prix of 2024, having been sidelined by Red Bull.

This time, barring any surprises, it seems unlikely that there will be a return to Red Bull Racing or RB F1 for Ricciardo as a driver. And while the Australian has not officially confirmed his retirement from Formula 1, circumstances may well push him towards that decision.

However, Ricciardo could still make frequent appearances in the paddocks. Christian Horner has stated that Red Bull is “very open” to the idea of the Australian being involved in various events, particularly in the United States.

The exact nature of his potential role remains unclear – the most likely scenarios involve ambassadorial duties, including driving tasks for marketing and promotional events such as Red Bull’s various show runs, similar to what David Coulthard has continued to do nearly two decades after the end of his driving career.

“Daniel grew up with Red Bull, and he’s taking some time off at the moment,” Horner replied when asked whether he had spoken to his former driver since Singapore.

“But he knows that he would be welcome at any time, in whatever capacity he chooses to be involved.”

“He has an enormous profile, so if he chooses to get involved in certain activities, particularly in the United States, in any capacity, it’s something we would be very open to,” said Horner.

Last week, Ricciardo was seen in an Instagram post with friends, wearing a hat that referenced his “retirement.” While this might suggest that Ricciardo has entirely shut the door on a motorsport career, the hat was merely for fun among friends and not an informal declaration.

When asked about it, Horner smiled: “I’m not sure if that’s the decision he’s ready to make! He could still have a professional racing career. NASCAR, Supercars in Australia – back home – I think Daniel’s an appealing figure for those series or others.”

“I believe right now he needs a lot of rest and reflection, but Red Bull will be there for him if he wants it, and we’ll find a way to keep collaborating, whether that’s in the F1 paddocks, at events, or elsewhere.”
