Red Bull will allow Max Verstappen to race GT3 in 2025, opening the door to a rare dual programme in elite motorsport.
Max Verstappen appears poised to achieve the rare feat of competing in two separate professional championships in 2025.
The last driver to accomplish this was two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in 2017, who skipped the Monaco Grand Prix with the underperforming McLaren Honda team to take part in the legendary Indianapolis 500.
Now, amid ongoing speculation about a performance-related exit clause, Verstappen seems to have convinced Red Bull to allow him to drive a GT3 car later this year.
Verstappen Targets GT3 Glory
The four-time world champion revealed in Barcelona that he had applied for FIA Endurance classification and was granted “Platinum” status—the highest, of course.
He recently completed a memorable test in a Ferrari GT3 belonging to his own team, Verstappen.com Racing, on the treacherous Nordschleife circuit, breaking the lap record.
Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull advisor, admitted in Barcelona that Red Bull would allow the Dutchman to compete later in 2025.
“If you want to make Max smile, you have to talk to him about GT.”
“There are gaps in the calendar in the autumn, and I suppose Max has already looked into it closely.”
After having previously forbidden Verstappen from skiing in winter, Marko defended the decision to let the 27-year-old driver race in another category.
“A GT is a relatively slow car. My only concern is that if he enters a race, everyone will want to prove themselves, which will make things more complicated for Max.”
