Red Bull halts RB21 updates, focusing on resolving key 2024 challenges to ensure a stronger and more consistent season ahead.
Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has revealed that the RB21 is now finalized.
The team’s 2025 car must achieve better balance to enable Max Verstappen to secure a fifth consecutive title.
Verstappen won seven of the first ten races in 2024, but the RB20 became a challenging problem to manage as McLaren and Ferrari gained momentum.
The RB20 only performed within a very specific operating window late in the season, while McLaren’s MCL38 seemed effective across all conditions.
According to Marko, Red Bull has addressed this issue to ensure the new car delivers more consistent performance.
“I would say the basic concept is ready. The car is essentially complete, its configuration is finalized, and it is now moving into final production. At this stage, we are still assessing how much weight can be saved.”
“The engineers’ task was to design a car with a wider operating window. A car that isn’t so extreme that it becomes very, very difficult for drivers to control.”
“This means better predictability and, if possible, as McLaren has demonstrated, delivering performance across all circuits, not just specific ones.”
One of the RB20’s main weaknesses was its inability to handle curbs effectively, with Verstappen describing the car as a “kangaroo” in Monaco when attempting to clear them.
Red Bull believes the issue has been resolved.
“One of our significant weaknesses was our inability to fully clear curbs. Max said the car bounced like a kangaroo, and on some circuits, this cost us considerable time. We believe these weaknesses have been addressed, but we’ll only truly know during testing in Bahrain.”
