Despite ongoing correlation challenges in Canada, Red Bull Racing, under Marko and Horner’s guidance, shows signs of advancement.
Red Bull Racing is beginning to make headway in adjusting its RB20 to better handle bumps and kerbs.
However, significant correlation problems persist, as was again evident in Montreal, confirms Dr. Helmut Marko, the motorsport consultant.
“For Canada, the simulator data did not match reality, as was also the case in Monaco or Singapore last year. We know our F1 is not the best over the kerbs.”
“In Canada, we arrived with a softer baseline setting for the suspensions, but it was not enough. Once again, the RB F1s were stronger than us in this area, and we are currently taking a closer look at where Red Bull Racing might have gone wrong.”
“We are on the right track to make progress on the front suspension.”
Christian Horner, team principal, added that the team was already showing promising signs of progress in the last sector of Montreal, which includes the final chicane featuring high kerbs.
“It all has to work in tandem, so you push the car’s aerodynamic platform, but you want the car to ride the kerbs. What’s encouraging is that our third sector was competitive, even with the car’s stiffness jarring the driver in his F1 in the last chicane.”
“If you look throughout the race, we were very competitive as well. So, despite the clear discomfort for the drivers, we were still able to be quite fast.”
“As Max Verstappen said, there is real performance to be unlocked from this side, and it will free up lap time.”
Verstappen was heard on the team radio during the Canadian Grand Prix complaining about his suspension “seeming locked.”
“What he was referring to is that the car is quite stiff and as the circuit dries, the car goes a bit faster and they start to use the kerbs,” continued Horner.
“But we understand our issues and have made a strong comeback since Monaco a few weeks ago. Winning a race like that was very rewarding and important.”
