Dr. Helmut Marko confirms Red Bull’s ongoing interest in Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri as potential future drivers, despite existing contracts with their current teams.

Dr. Helmut Marko has reiterated Red Bull’s desire to one day recruit Lando Norris, despite the Brit’s commitment to McLaren.

Norris has signed a multi-year extension of his contract with the Woking-based team, which was due to expire at the end of 2025.

Red Bull has been interested in Norris for several years and even approached him in 2018 to make his F1 debut for the Toro Rosso team.

The 24-year-old driver has had a strong start to the 2024 season, scoring two podiums in the first five races.

As Red Bull evaluates its options for the future, Marko has confirmed Norris as a name on his shortlist of drivers to contact outside of the Red Bull juniors.

“He is young and certainly at the center of our concerns.”

“His father always jokes that Lando won’t celebrate his first Grand Prix victory until Max [Verstappen] retires.”

“I told him he should join us, then it would certainly happen faster.”

Red Bull has a seat available for the 2025 season, as Sergio Perez’s contract expires this year. There is also uncertainty about Max Verstappen’s future with the team, amid speculation about a power struggle within the team.

However, Marko, who admitted that Norris’ extension had ruled him out as a possible arrival in the near future, also expressed interest in his teammate, Oscar Piastri.

“Norris has at least a contract until 2026, so he is not a short-term option, nor is Oscar Piastri. But both drivers are certainly interesting for us in the future.”
