Christian Horner shuts down rumours about Max Verstappen’s contract, insisting Red Bull’s sole focus is chasing a fifth world title.
Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has made it clear: the team’s only focus is helping Max Verstappen win a fifth world championship — not speculating on possible contract exits.
Recent comments from Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko suggested that Verstappen’s future with the team could come under review during the summer break. Rumors hint at a clause allowing him to leave without penalty if he’s not in the top two or three in the championship standings by then.
Speaking from Miami ahead of the Grand Prix weekend, Horner pushed back firmly.
“Max hasn’t even arrived in Miami yet — he’s expecting a child — and already there’s speculation flying around. Formula 1 never changes,” he said with a smile.
“What matters right now is the championship. We’re only thinking about whether we can secure that fifth title with Max — that’s the only thing on our minds.”
Despite a challenging start to the season, Horner remained optimistic.
“There’s a long way to go. We’re not even a quarter of the way through, and we’ve already had five races. We’re just 12 points behind in the drivers’ standings. We’ve taken a pole position, won a race, finished second a few times — with the car we have, that’s not a bad start.”
Looking ahead, Horner hinted at key upgrades coming soon.
“Our focus is on improving the car and fixing its weak points. We’ll also see a major change in Barcelona with the front wings — some teams have been pushing the limits of flexibility. That’s going to change.”
“Whether it helps or hurts teams will become clear soon enough.”
