Sergio Perez’s family has sparked controversy, accusing Red Bull of rigging car setups to favor Max Verstappen over the Mexican driver.
In a bold and controversial statement, the Perez family is stirring up the pot with claims that there’s a conspiracy against Sergio at Red Bull Racing. Antonio Pérez Garibay, a prominent Mexican politician, has publicly suggested that Max Verstappen would struggle if he were driving Sergio’s car, raising eyebrows across the motorsport world.
Perez Family Accuses Red Bull Favoritism
According to Antonio, Red Bull Racing doesn’t produce two identical cars, with Verstappen’s car – the one bearing the number 1 – being superior to Perez’s number 11. His statement suggests that if Verstappen were to drive Perez’s car, he wouldn’t perform any better, challenging the team’s claim of providing identical machinery for both drivers.
This is a conspiracy theory rarely seen in Formula 1 and will no doubt prompt a reaction from the Austrian team in the coming days.
“I’m about to say something that will cause a lot of noise,” Antonio began. “The car with the number 1 [Verstappen’s] was not the same as the car with the number 11 [Perez’s].”
“If you put the driver of the number 1 car into the number 11 car, he wouldn’t even make it out of Q1 in qualifying, and he certainly wouldn’t beat the number 1 car. So, it’s the car that’s the problem. The cars weren’t the same.”
Perez Family Questions Red Bull Fairness
Antonio’s remarks have fueled speculation, and as the media continues to cover the issue, many are questioning whether Red Bull’s car setup truly supports both drivers equally.
Meanwhile, Perez’s father has shown his support for another Red Bull driver, Yuki Tsunoda, following Liam Lawson’s departure. He hopes Tsunoda will have the best equipment available for his upcoming home race at Suzuka.
“I hope things are different now, and in Japan, Yuki will get the best car Red Bull can offer. They can’t disappoint the Japanese fans; they need to give Yuki the tools to fight,” said Antonio. “He should have the same car as the others.”
With these claims now out in the open, the saga between Perez, Red Bull, and Verstappen is bound to take an intriguing turn.
