Pérez: Red Bull “understands” its issues and must “resolve” them

29/08/2024

Pérez urges Red Bull to tackle issues for gains.

Sergio Pérez is convinced that the challenges Red Bull is currently facing are more difficult for him to manage compared to Max Verstappen, who manages to cope due to his driving style.

“The solution is the same for both cars,” Pérez stated. “Max can probably handle a problem a bit better than I can with his style. But ultimately, once we resolve the issue, it will benefit us both, and perhaps even more so for me.”

“I believe the correlation issue has been around for some time and it’s related to many factors. I wouldn’t say it’s the main issue. The main issue is that we have probably taken a wrong turn somewhere that we need to understand.”

He has already resolved some of his issues, as evidenced by his weekend in Zandvoort: “I think understanding the problem has been a great help. I think after Miami, we were somewhat uncertain and we were working with a car whose mechanics we did not fully grasp.”

“And I think once you understand the problem, you are able to organize around it, to drive while compensating for it. I believe this made a small difference on my part. Now, the most important thing is being able to resolve the issue.”

“We know where we stand with the car,” Pérez remarks. However, the Mexican driver is concerned about the performance of McLaren F1: “I think what they demonstrated at Zandvoort was really, really strong. It’s probably the best performance we’ve seen from McLaren in some time.”

“At the same time, we have every reason to believe that Zandvoort is likely a very challenging track for us, especially with the wind conditions which affect us more than others. But, as I’ve mentioned, I believe the most important thing for us now is that we understand the car’s problems.”

“We comprehend them. It’s simply a matter of speed and finding solutions to resolve them. But we know exactly where we stand with the car. We know what the issues are. And yes, I hope that in the coming weekends, and even for this one, we will be able to make significant progress.”

Despite the time lost in understanding these issues, Pérez remains optimistic: “Certainly, the momentum is with them. But we are not standing idly by. As a team, we are working very hard to find solutions. I think we have taken a significant step forward in understanding the problem.”

“It probably took us a bit too long. But we know our issues. It will simply be a matter of maximizing our efforts until the end of the year and seeing where we stand. But I am hopeful that we can improve the car’s performance in the upcoming races.”
