Red Bull Accused of Blocking Rising F1 Stars

Marko Slams F1 Teams for Stifling Young Talent

Marko accuses F1 teams of hindering young drivers, questioning Red Bull’s own practices.

Helmut Marko believes teams with junior driver academies are too hesitant to let tomorrow’s talents race in F1. The Red Bull consultant, whose own pipeline struggles to debut obvious talents like Liam Lawson, criticizes such operations.

“Oliver Bearman was in the right place at the right time and will move to Formula 1 next year,” Marko wrote. “His race in the Ferrari showed him his future in F1, but if you looked at his Formula 2 results, things would be much worse for him.”

“But it’s a good thing that young drivers are making it to Formula 1, I’m all for it. I won’t name names, but there are people who are blocking the path of talent. There are drivers who are stagnating and are more or less good depending on their mood.”

“They are blocking the road for young drivers. Teams are also afraid of juniors. Of course, they make mistakes, but I’d rather someone makes mistakes and is a hope for the future than there be no improvement.”

But Red Bull wants to shake up its own nest and will review its young driver reserve. The French Isack Hadjar and young Arvid Lindblad are its favorites: “During the summer break, we will also analyze and evaluate the performances of the Red Bull juniors more closely.”

“Hadjar has taken the lead in the F2 standings with his win in the Silverstone finale, but we must not forget that he has been unlucky several times: there was the engine failure, then the backup engine that did not work, then the two fuel supply failures and, on two occasions, he also spun out through no fault of his own.”

“Otherwise, he would be far ahead in the championship. Lindblad has shone in Formula 3, moving directly from Formula 4 to Formula 3 as a rookie and winning both races. He is only 16 and we are excited that one can again drive a Formula 1 car at 17.”

“But we remain calm and continue to produce good results with our juniors, who once again are given higher priority and are also allowed to drive Formula 1 cars. Isack performed well in his recent tests, he never used the soft tires on the car, but he performed well.”

“Isack and Arvid have excellent qualities, they are very fast and have the quality of a Formula 1 driver. We must also not forget Ayumu Iwasa, who is currently in second place in Super Formula in Japan.”
