Hadjar thrives in Suzuka as Lawson finds new racing edge

Racing Bulls shine in Japan as Hadjar impresses and Lawson adapts to the car’s unique handling around high-speed Suzuka.

It was a strong start to the Suzuka weekend for Racing Bulls, with both drivers showing solid pace on Friday. Isack Hadjar especially impressed, finishing third in the second practice session—and he couldn’t hide his excitement.

“It was more than encouraging—it was just plain fun,” Hadjar said after stepping out of the car. “This car and this track? Easily the best combo. I loved every second of today. It was a really good Friday.”

The young Frenchman is building momentum after strong performances in Melbourne and Shanghai:

“We’re finding our rhythm. We know where we need to improve, and I think we’re heading in the right direction for a good result tomorrow.”

Lawson Returns, Feels the Rush

Teammate Liam Lawson, back in the Racing Bulls seat after being sidelined by Red Bull, also looked sharp, ending the day fifth overall. For him, Suzuka is not just another race—it’s a return to a circuit he clearly enjoys.

“It’s just great to be back behind the wheel—especially here at Suzuka,” Lawson said. “The resurfacing has made Sector 1 even quicker. It feels like your head’s getting ripped off through those corners. It’s wild—but in the best way.”

The Kiwi is also getting used to the unique feel of the VCARB 02:

“It definitely feels different. It’s not quite what people might expect, but it’s a good kind of different,” he explained. “The team’s in a really strong window right now. The car’s been quick since the start of the season, so the goal is to keep that going into Saturday.”
