Racing Bulls: a ‘different’ car but just as ‘competitive’

Liam Lawson isn’t concerned after the opening day of free practice at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Racing Bulls driver finished sixth in the second session and hopes to gain more performance ahead of qualifying.

“It’s a positive day and a good start to the weekend. We have a solid base to build on, but obviously everything will be decided tomorrow afternoon. We’ll keep working to improve the car,” said Lawson, who felt the effects of the technical directive on the VCARB 02.

“We were all a bit off at the start of FP1 due to the new front wing, but we’ll keep chasing the balance. I could definitely feel the difference in the car and we’re in a good place for now, but obviously we expect every team to improve.”

Confident, Focused, Still Improving

Isack Hadjar had no issues behind the wheel and just wants to keep progressing through the weekend after finishing eighth on the opening day: “Heading into the weekend, I still have confidence in the car. We had work to do today.”

“And even though we’re not fully satisfied with the balance yet, it’s always tricky on this track with high track temperatures. We’re optimistic and think we can make the necessary changes to be competitive tomorrow. It’ll be tight with the other midfield teams, but everything’s still up for grabs.”
