Alain Prost denounces the Senna series for distorting his story and reveals why he’s considering stepping away from social media.
Alain Prost has expressed frustration over how his character is portrayed in Netflix’s Senna series. Already depicted as the antagonist and negatively portrayed in the early 2010s documentary, the four-time F1 world champion is dismayed to see the same narrative repeated in the recent fictional series.
“It’s nonsense, complete nonsense,” Prost stated. “Almost everything has been entirely dramatized. I don’t really want to talk about it anymore. I’ve only seen a few clips and heard a lot of comments.”
“Like with the Senna film—the first one—I probably spent more time on that than on my own documentary, and with this biopic, it’s clear I won’t be satisfied. Because there’s always a hero and a villain.”
“I know a bit about the story being told, and yes, it’s a biopic, it’s fiction. But unfortunately, there are some recurring narratives that are completely made up, entirely false. People act as if I was arrogant, and honestly, if there’s one thing I can strongly refute, it’s that.”
Although he has always said he is proud to have played a key role in F1 history, Prost admits that he sees too many references to Senna, to the point where he feels his career is reduced to that rivalry.
“I can’t avoid thinking about Ayrton—fortunately or unfortunately. For example, I’m considering shutting down my Instagram because I receive messages every day, really every single day without exception—occasionally, there’s even a hateful one, which happens.”
“My largest fan base on social media is from Brazil, of all places, so I am constantly reminded of him. Indirectly, I’ve been living around this story for 30 years, and it will probably remain that way for the rest of my life.”
“Life consists of several chapters: the journey into motorsport, my career, and today. In the 30 years since my career ended, I have done many things, yet they are rarely discussed. I feel as though my life is reduced to the Prost-Senna rivalry.”
“It seems my entire life is defined by that duel. But there was much more to that era—all the drivers I raced against and competed with. I had four world champions as teammates, and they were incredibly important people who meant a lot to me.”
Beyond Senna, Prost also faced Niki Lauda, Keke Rosberg, and Damon Hill. Meanwhile, the FIA has taken note of the issue, condemning the sometimes violent online behavior.
“As a former world champion in his sport, Alain Prost should not be forced off social media due to online abuse. His experience highlights the harsh reality faced by athletes at all levels—daily harassment, abuse, and even threats.”
“Under FIA leadership, the UAOA is developing the necessary educational, technological, and regulatory solutions to protect competitors, officials, and fans, ensuring that sport remains a place of intense but fair and inclusive competition.”
