Post-Belgian GP Vandoorne to Debut in AMR24

Vandoorne Set for Aston Martin AMR24 Debut Post-Spa

24/07/2024

Stoffel Vandoorne will pilot the AMR24 for Aston Martin at Spa, following the conclusion of the Belgian Grand Prix.

Aston Martin F1’s test and reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne will have his first outing in the AMR24 during a two-day Pirelli tire test following the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.

The Belgian will take the helm of the Silverstone-based team’s 2024 F1 car on Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31, at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

Vandoorne debuted in Formula 1 with McLaren at the 2016 Bahrain GP, stepping in for Fernando Alonso, with whom he then partnered full-time for two seasons in 2017 and 2018.

After losing his seat, he has served as a reserve driver at McLaren, Mercedes, and now Aston Martin (since 2023), and expressed his excitement about the opportunity to test the AMR24 next week.

“I am really looking forward to driving the AMR24 for the first time next week at Spa.”

“It’s always special to be back in a Formula 1 car, and even more so to do it on my home track.”

“As this is an official test, we will be using various tire compounds and constructions to provide feedback to Pirelli.”

“With high-speed and low-speed corners, it provides a useful range of data points, and there is usually a high chance of running in wet conditions as well.”

In addition to his reserve driver duties with Aston Martin, Vandoorne competes in the World Endurance Championship WEC (Peugeot) and Formula E (DS Penske).
