Pirelli launched its 2026 Formula 1 tyre test programme in Barcelona, with Russell and Hadjar logging high-mileage runs on dry compounds.

A new Pirelli test session focused on the 2026 tyres got underway yesterday in Barcelona.

In collaboration with Mercedes F1 and Racing Bulls F1, Pirelli engineers evaluated various constructions and dry-weather compounds. As the Barcelona circuit is particularly demanding on tyres, the focus was on the hardest compounds in the range.

At the wheel of the Mercedes was George Russell, while Isack Hadjar drove the Racing Bulls, both coming off strong performances in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix. They were driving mule cars based on their respective teams’ 2024 machines, adapted to reflect the expected levels of downforce for 2026.

By the end of the day, the Briton had completed 136 laps, with a best time of 1:16.920, while the Frenchman logged 146 laps, his fastest being 1:18.334.

Mercedes F1 will continue testing today for the second and final day, this time with Kimi Antonelli. He will be joined by Red Bull Racing and their Japanese driver, Yuki Tsunoda.
