Oscar Piastri’s blistering form has shaken up the grid, McLaren’s young gun might just be ready to fight for the crown.
There’s no denying it: Oscar Piastri’s stock is rising fast in Formula 1.
After a commanding win at the Bahrain Grand Prix, where he outpaced teammate Lando Norris, Piastri is turning heads, and his manager, ex-F1 driver Mark Webber, believes this could be the start of something big.
Could this form continue? And more importantly, could Piastri turn McLaren’s momentum into a full-on title challenge?
Webber is cautiously optimistic. Speaking on F1 Nation, he praised Piastri’s sharp development and cool-headed performances.
“Four wins and 13 podiums this early in his career—that’s a serious asset,” Webber noted. “Having a fast car is one thing. Knowing how to capitalize on it is something else entirely.”
Piastri’s recent run has shown maturity beyond his years. Back-to-back pole positions in China and Bahrain underline how quickly he’s mastering one-lap pace—something crucial in a field packed with names like Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton.
“This win in Bahrain was probably the most comfortable he’s ever had,” Webber added. “Of course, there will be tougher ones down the line, but right now, he’s showing great consistency.”
And it’s not just about race pace. Qualifying—often the trickiest part of a Grand Prix weekend—has become one of Piastri’s strengths.
“In F1, qualifying is a critical part of the job,” said Webber. “And Oscar’s really stepped it up. He knows he’s up against the best, and he’s working smart—learning, improving, and applying that knowledge where it counts.”
Despite the praise, Webber is clear that there’s more to come. “Experience only comes with time. He’s learning fast, but the journey is far from over.”
So, could Oscar Piastri go all the way this year? If Bahrain and China are anything to go by—don’t count him out.
