Oscar Piastri’s relentless progression continues to impress his McLaren engineer, showing no signs of slowing since his debut.
Tom Stallard, Oscar Piastri’s race engineer at McLaren F1, is impressed by the young driver’s ability to progress consistently throughout the races. He believes Piastri continues to improve just as quickly as he did at the beginning.
“Absolutely. His rate of progression hasn’t really slowed over 39 races,” Stallard said on the F1 Nation podcast. “He keeps learning, keeps getting better, keeps asking for information, and studying things.”
“We talk about certain things. He takes them on board and executes them. So, for me, if you’re improving at this rate, what’s the limit? The limit comes when that improvement starts to taper off, and so far, we’ve seen no sign of that, so everything is going well.”
Piastri is gaining more confidence and trying to become a leader within the team, but Stallard acknowledges the challenge that comes with it: “One thing world champion drivers do is rally the team and the factory to believe not just in the driver, but also in themselves.”
“It’s a strange environment because you’re 22 years old and suddenly becoming the leader of a thousand-person company, which isn’t something many 22-year-olds experience. The team relies on you to guide, support, and lead, and his ability to do so is improving and developing.”
