Oscar Piastri dominates Shanghai with a flawless win, while Lando Norris battles late brake issues in dramatic McLaren 1-2 finish.
McLaren F1 delivered a dominant performance at the Chinese Grand Prix, with Oscar Piastri taking his third career win — and his first of the 2025 season — after leading for most of the race.
Piastri called it “an incredible weekend from start to finish,” showing confidence and control throughout. “The tyre behavior was surprising today, especially compared to what we saw earlier,” he said. “But overall, I’m proud. The team nailed it, and to finish 1-2 is just amazing.”
The Australian admitted the medium tyres were tricky to handle, but praised the unexpected performance of the hard compound: “They were much better than anyone thought. It wasn’t an easy race, but we managed it well — a huge credit to the whole team.”
While Piastri was all smiles, his teammate Lando Norris had a more complicated afternoon. Despite finishing second, the Brit revealed he had brake pedal issues during the closing stages — a problem that nearly turned his race into a disaster.
“There were definitely a few tense moments,” Norris admitted. “The start went as planned, but George [Russell] caught me off guard early on. After that, it was about managing the race. I tried to chase Oscar, but he was just too quick today.”
Norris was full of praise for his teammate’s performance: “Oscar deserved the win. He’s been on it all weekend. I’m happy to bring home second — it’s a great points haul and a fantastic result for the whole team.”
As for the brake scare? “Honestly, that was terrifying — my worst nightmare,” Norris said. “The fear is always that the pedal gives out completely, but we made it to the finish. I wanted to push Oscar, but I just couldn’t today.”
With a flawless drive from Piastri and a gritty, determined effort from Norris, McLaren has sent a clear message: they’re back at the front — and hungry for more.
