McLaren’s Oscar Piastri impresses with a second-place finish in FP2 at Imola, while teammate Lando Norris faces challenges, finishing twelfth.
Oscar Piastri finished second in FP2 at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, showcasing McLaren F1’s strong form. The Australian has now received the full package of upgrades that Lando Norris had during his Miami victory.
“Friday done! I think this has been one of our best Fridays and we seem to be in a pretty good position.”
“It’s very close, we’ll see what we can find tomorrow, but it’s an encouraging day. I felt quite comfortable from the first lap this morning, so I’m excited for tomorrow.”
“The team has done a good job bringing the remaining upgrades to my car, so thanks to them!”
Meanwhile, Norris had a challenging start to the day with in-depth testing, but he later managed to find some comfort on track with his car, giving him hope for the rest of the weekend. He clocked the 12th fastest time in FP2.
“It was overall a good day. FP1 was tricky; we had the grills on the car for testing and had issues after that, so it wasn’t a very clean day,” explained the British driver.
“We made good progress between FP1 and FP2, and once I was comfortable, I felt very good on track. We’re in a good position; it was windy with gusts, but it was a good day and a strong start to the weekend.”
When asked about what he needs to do to perform well in qualifying, he acknowledged that his MCL38 requires slight adjustments, but nothing drastic: “Currently, I need to review the data and compare myself to others—Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes seem quick.”
“We need to see where we stand compared to them, but we are fast and in a good position. We’ll have to make some minor changes, nothing too significant, and make sure everything comes together.”
