Oscar Piastri dominates in Bahrain as McLaren seals a rare double podium, signaling serious momentum in the 2025 F1 season.
McLaren F1 delivered a statement performance in Bahrain, a track that’s historically been tough for the team since 2022. But this weekend, they flipped the script. Oscar Piastri marked his 50th Formula 1 Grand Prix with a flawless performance, securing his first career hat-trick—pole position, race win, and fastest lap.
“It’s been an amazing weekend from start to finish,” Piastri said after the race. “The car was fantastic, and I’m incredibly thankful to the whole team. A special mention as well to our Bahraini owners—this is a home race in many ways, and getting a result like this here feels extra special.”
The Australian led comfortably throughout, even with a late-race safety car that could have shaken things up. “I could’ve done without it, to be honest,” he admitted. “But I felt in control. Both Lando and I were on mediums, which turned out to be the right call. The restart was clean, and everything came together.”
Asked about celebrating the win, Piastri was quick to point out the packed calendar: “I’m sure the team will enjoy it—but for me, it’s early to party. We’ve got another race next weekend!”
Teammate Lando Norris had a more eventful afternoon, climbing from sixth to third and securing McLaren’s third double podium in four races. Despite the strong result, Norris was frustrated with his own performance.
“I just made too many mistakes,” he said. “I didn’t position the car correctly at the start and got a penalty for it. My overtakes were messy too. It wasn’t my cleanest race, but it was exciting, and I hope it made for good viewing.”
Norris also enjoyed a tight scrap with fellow Brits Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. “It was close, but fair. George defended well—I thought I had him a few times, but he did a solid job. Oscar was brilliant too. Congrats to the whole team. I’ll be looking to tidy things up next weekend.”
