Piastri Aims Higher After Sprint Podium in China: “We Need to Find More”

22/03/2025

Oscar Piastri impressed in the Sprint but knows Sunday’s race is the real challenge. McLaren aims to unlock extra pace.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri is looking to step up his game in Sunday’s Grand Prix after an impressive second-place finish in the Chinese Sprint.

Starting from P3, the Australian made a bold move to pass Max Verstappen and held on to take P2 behind Lewis Hamilton. While pleased with the result, Piastri is already focused on what’s next.

“It was a solid Sprint. Finishing second is a good result, and we did what we could,” he said. “Lewis had better pace, but now it’s about finding ideas for tomorrow and seeing where we can improve.”

The McLaren driver is hoping for a stronger qualifying and a more competitive race pace with his MCL39, as he eyes a bigger result in Sunday’s main event.

“Hopefully we can stay out of heavy traffic—that’s the goal,” Piastri added. “We’ll take a good look this afternoon to unlock more speed from the car. It’s a tough weekend with strong competition—Ferrari is quick.”
