A late lock-up from Piastri and tight gaps for Norris leave McLaren optimistic heading into Miami’s fast-paced Sprint showdown.
McLaren may not have secured pole position for the Miami Sprint, but there’s no sense of panic in the camp. Instead, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are walking away from qualifying feeling optimistic.
Piastri, who qualified second, admitted he made a late mistake that cost him the top spot.
“I’m fairly happy,” said the Australian. “It wasn’t the best lap I’ve ever done. I locked up into the final corner — that probably made the difference. Still, P2 is a solid result.”
Looking ahead, Piastri is focused on maximizing the Sprint. “We’re still in the fight for the win tomorrow. There’s a bit of pace left to find, but I’m feeling confident. The plan is to go for the win and build momentum for Sunday.”
Norris, who starts just behind in third, was also upbeat.
“It was a tight session, but I enjoyed it,” he said. “I put together a good lap. It wasn’t perfect, but we’re right in the mix.”
“Today was a solid performance overall. Not quite enough for pole, but we’re close — Mercedes looked quick out there. We’ve got work to do in the Sprint, but we’re in a position to challenge.”
Both drivers know there’s still a chance to flip the script in the Sprint and set themselves up for a strong weekend. Miami is just getting started.
