Perez's Contract Talks Stall Amid F1 Tensions

Perez’s Contract Talks Stall Amid F1 Tensions

03/05/2024

Amidst rising Formula 1 stakes, Sergio Perez’s contract renewal faces delays, stirring speculation and strategic discussions.

Sergio Perez is off to a very good start this season, compared to his end of 2023.

The Red Bull driver has therefore been highly praised by his bosses and has even demanded a new contract, hoping that it will materialize quickly. Within a month, he said… a month ago.

So why hasn’t it been done? Is it due to the internal situation at Red Bull? The Mexican admits to changing pace regarding the conclusion of a new deal.

“I think, like everyone who hasn’t signed a contract, mine isn’t signed. So I don’t have a deal at the moment, that’s a fact,” he confides in Miami.

“Am I sure I’ll stay? No. As long as you don’t have it on signed paper, then everything remains an option.”

“But, for now, it’s not really the priority,” admits Perez.

Carlos Sainz is reportedly pressuring to take his place, or that of Max Verstappen. The Mexican does not deny that “discussions are flying everywhere.”

“We are in a period where, obviously, the driver market moves things much earlier, with Lewis joining Ferrari at the beginning of the year, meaning everyone is looking for the best possible option. But I believe it’s just a matter of time.”

“Obviously, the priority right now is the season, it’s the races, it’s preparing for the races with the team and the rest will follow on its own.”
