Pérez navigated from a crash to clinch seventh in Hungary, marking a notable recovery.
Sergio Pérez secured seventh place at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and the Red Bull driver believes that was the best outcome possible following his Q1 crash yesterday, which relegated him to the eighth row on the starting grid. He had to contend with George Russell to achieve this result.
“Today was the maximum we could achieve. It was a positive sign; the pace was strong. We were challenged by George, but we surpassed him with pace and strategy. We were stuck in traffic for part of the race, which made managing the car difficult as it wasn’t at 100% after yesterday’s accident,” Pérez stated.
The Mexican described how he managed a strong performance following yet another setback: “You have to reset and start over. We were quick on Friday and quick again today. I’m hoping for a good weekend where we can demonstrate our pace. The positive takeaway is that the pace is there, so it’s just a matter of time.”
Christian Horner, his team principal, praised Pérez’s remarkable recovery: “A solid race from him, an impressive recovery from where he started, trailing Russell in the first stint. To finish seventh having started 16th on the grid is a commendable comeback.”
