Red Bull’s RB20 update debuts strongly in Hungary, earning praise from drivers Verstappen and Pérez.
Max Verstappen took to the track in Budapest with a brand new specification of the Red Bull RB20 this Friday, and the weekend got off to a promising start for the Dutch driver, securing second place and a positive feel behind the wheel of his single-seater.
“We’ve had a good day with the upgrades we’ve brought to this race,” Verstappen remarked. “Of course, there’s still much to do to optimise the car, but I think it’s a solid start to the weekend.”
“It’s crucial to examine every detail and work to ensure we have the best possible settings for the car for qualifying. Naturally, the second practice session was somewhat disrupted by the red flag.”
“We didn’t manage to complete the longer runs we wanted, but it’s the same situation for everyone. We’ll review things and proceed from there. On the whole, it was a positive start to the weekend.”
Sergio Pérez appeared more competitive than in previous races, clocking a promising time in the second practice session and taking fourth place, whilst employing nearly all the updates on the RB20, save for the engine cover: “I think we made a significant step forward between the first and second practice sessions, making the right adjustments and moving in the right direction.”
“This is the car I’ve felt most comfortable with at this stage of the weekend for a long time. The steps we’ve taken throughout the day were the best possible, and that’s really positive. We’re feeling good, and the long run looked promising as well.”
“I believe we can still fine-tune the settings and at the end of the day, it’s all about putting everything together at the right moment. Our time will come; for now, we need to keep our heads down and look forward to tomorrow. Let’s see what the rest of the weekend holds.”
