Pérez to Cadillac: A Smart Move for F1’s Future?

Johnny Herbert believes Pérez’s experience could be the perfect fit for Cadillac’s Formula 1 journey, adding valuable expertise to the team.

Could Sergio Pérez’s stock rise in the Formula 1 paddock following Liam Lawson’s struggles at Red Bull? Johnny Herbert thinks so. He believes Lawson’s performance highlights just how close Pérez was to Max Verstappen, especially considering Lawson’s underwhelming results in the two races he raced for Red Bull.

However, Pérez’s own record, backed by over 13 years of experience, has been far from perfect. By the end of 2024, he hadn’t closed the gap to Verstappen significantly more than Lawson, who had only 11 races under his belt. Despite this, Herbert believes there’s still enough for Pérez’s reputation to improve.

“Yes, Sergio Pérez at Cadillac makes sense,” said Herbert. “Looking back, Pérez did a solid job at Red Bull. It wasn’t perfect—he didn’t win the championship—but he showed he had the pace. Consistency was probably the one area where he lagged behind Max.”

Herbert also highlights Pérez’s vast experience as a key asset for Cadillac, especially as the team prepares to enter Formula 1: “He would be a great addition to Cadillac. With his experience, he could offer so much—both in the car and at the factory. Plus, he could help the team expand into the American markets.”

“He’s also passionate,” Herbert added. “It’s not like he’s ready to call it quits. He’s still driven by a love for F1, and it’s great to see. I think it would be a perfect match.”

Pérez’s potential move to Cadillac could offer more than just a solid driver; it could be a strategic boost for the team as they aim to make their mark in Formula 1.
