Sergio Pérez expressed frustration after falling to 11th in Austin’s Sprint Qualifying, citing a step backwards after SQ1.

Sergio Pérez made no effort to conceal his frustration after being knocked out during the second phase of the Sprint Qualifying at Austin. The Red Bull driver expressed his disappointment at failing to piece everything together between SQ1 and SQ2, as well as the time lost in the process.

“Yes, I’m very frustrated, especially between SQ1 and SQ2, we didn’t make any progress. In fact, we took a step backwards in terms of tyre management. It’s difficult, but that’s how it goes. Hopefully, we can learn from the car and ensure everything comes together for tomorrow,” Pérez stated.

“I believe I’ve got a few issues with the car’s behaviour at high speeds, and we’ll be looking into that. Our pace during the long runs this morning was promising, and we’ll focus on that because it’s the most important objective for the weekend.”

He went on to explain that he’s struggling to build confidence during his laps, as the car’s handling isn’t ideal from the very first corners: “Not really, I had too many difficulties in the Esses at the start of the lap, so there’s work to be done.”
