Brown voices surprise as Perez remains with Red Bull, sparking debate on McLaren’s outlook.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown expressed his relief that his team is no longer facing driver issues like those encountered by Red Bull, which has opted to retain Sergio Perez.
Despite signing a new multi-year contract with Red Bull prior to the Canadian Grand Prix, Perez has not managed to shake off a troubling dip in form, casting doubt on his position within the Red Bull team.
He was ultimately confirmed to stay until the end of the season, a move that surprised many. The decision has been described as political by most observers…
When asked about Red Bull’s decision to keep Perez, suggesting that it could hinder their Constructors’ Championship bid, Brown replied, “Yes, surprised, with all the noise that was going around!”
Is this good news for the Constructors’ Championship?
“It’s a tricky question! They are in a situation where they have two teams and a junior driver programme and find themselves with one driver leading the championship and another who, I think, is seventh in the standings.”
“Sergio is a great driver; he has won races, so we all know he is perfectly capable of winning at any time, but it seems to be a bit of a problem at the moment.”
“I don’t know everything that’s going on over there, but it’s up to them to sort it out. I’m glad not to have driver issues!”
To contend for the title, further improvements are being made in Woking, and Brown is confident that they will remain in the fight for podiums and victories.
“That’s our plan. That said, we know how quickly the sport evolves, so we must continue doing what we’re doing.”
“We have other improvements coming throughout the year, but so do our competitors, so I see no reason why we couldn’t be at the forefront.”
“At every race and for the rest of the year, that’s where we’ve been practically all year. So that’s definitely our plan. But now, we just need to keep executing it.”
