Sergio Perez remains confident about his 2025 Red Bull seat, insisting the team has all the necessary information despite recent struggles.
Sergio Perez remained on the defensive today in the paddock in Qatar, firmly asserting that he will be on the F1 grid with Red Bull next season.
Perez’s future continues to be a hot topic amid his run of poor performances, with his own team principals suggesting a decision may come after the Abu Dhabi finale.
However, the Mexican, who has not finished on the podium since the Chinese Grand Prix in April, is resolute: he is here to stay.
During Thursday’s pre-race press conference in Qatar, Perez was asked if he had “100% confidence” in his place on the grid with Red Bull next year.
His response was clear: “Yes, exactly. I have a contract, I will be there, 100%.”
“It’s very hard for people who are not part of the team or not there day in, day out to understand why you can be so far off from one race to the next.”
“I think when you’re not able to extract 100% from your car, the quality of the car doesn’t matter. That’s what happened. I haven’t been able to get the most out of my car due to the difficulties I’ve faced in recent months. I think that’s the main issue.”
“You go through phases. As a team, we are understanding and working very hard to make sure we can resolve them.”
In the last 14 races, Perez has scored only 43 points, with a best finish of sixth. Isn’t that too little, given these so-called issues? After all, Verstappen seems to manage just fine…
Perez furrows his brow!
“I think Max has had his best season in the last four years. His talent and speed have been there from day one, but off the track, his way of working and pushing the team has improved.”
“It was one of my best starts to a season; everything seemed to be going well. But as soon as we returned to Europe, things changed. We got a bit lost with the car, and many weekends became too difficult.”
“We ended up losing a lot of points, and this season has been very hard. But that’s how it goes, sometimes things don’t go as you wish.”
“And for me… in the end, the team has all the information. I can’t say much here. There’s a reason why we extended my contract earlier in the year. The team has everything. We know exactly where we stand in terms of performance, the problems, and the difficulties we’ve faced.”
“We are a team, and we know exactly internally where everything stands. We’re working very hard as a team to get through this and come back with a much better season than the one we just had.”
