Pérez Signals Uncertainty on F1 Future We'll See

Pérez shifts tone on his future: ‘We need to discuss what’s best’

Sergio Pérez acknowledges differing visions with Red Bull, suggesting his F1 future is under review as discussions loom.

Sergio Pérez saw his Abu Dhabi race end before completing the first lap, after being hit by Valtteri Bottas at the start. The Red Bull driver concluded a challenging year in this abrupt manner and appeared dejected after this premature season finale.

“It’s been so difficult all season, and this sums it up well. I was hit by Bottas, and it was really tough to take. We can only look ahead—it’s been a very difficult season,” said Pérez, who might eventually take on an ambassadorial role for Red Bull in 2025.

While he has consistently claimed he would remain in F1 next year, the Mexican has now shifted his stance, acknowledging differing visions between himself and Red Bull: “We know how tough this season has been. It’s just about discussing what’s best for everyone, so we’ll see.”

Asked if he would be on the grid next year, Pérez deflected with little conviction, pointing to his contract—a barely concealed admission: “For now, that’s all I know. I have a contract to drive next year, and I hope we can reach an agreement. We’ll have to see what the team wants to do.”

However, Pérez is clearly not leaving without negotiating a favorable exit package, confirming he has not resigned: “No. We will discuss the situation for both parties in the coming days to see if we can reach an agreement. If not, I have a contract for next year.”
