Sergio Perez is reportedly set to lead Cadillac’s F1 entry in 2026, bringing star power and experience to the new team.
Perez is on track to return to Formula 1 in 2026 with Cadillac, according to a new report from German outlet Bild, which claims the deal has already been signed.
The timing lines up perfectly. Just days ago, Formula 1 confirmed a three-year extension for the Mexican Grand Prix, running from 2026 through 2028. That window matches the rumored length of Perez’s new contract with Cadillac, which is set to enter F1 as the eleventh team next season.
This potential move marks a major career turn for the 35-year-old veteran, who has won six Grands Prix and most recently raced for Red Bull. His long-time backer, Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, hinted earlier this week that Perez was “looking for something inspiring, something that offers a real challenge.”
Perez currently resides in Miami and is in town this week as Cadillac hosts a red-carpet event Saturday night. While the event is expected to showcase design concepts for Cadillac’s future F1 car or brand identity, there’s no official mention of Perez being unveiled as a driver.
That hasn’t stopped Bild, Europe’s highest-circulation newspaper, from reporting with confidence that the deal has been done for months. Journalist Enrico Ahlig wrote, “Perez brings experience and sponsorship power, exactly what a new factory team needs. He proved at Red Bull that under the right conditions, he can win races.”
Buzz around the Miami paddock has been strong following the Bild report, but not all media are convinced. While sources confirm ongoing talks between Cadillac and Perez, no official confirmation has emerged just yet. Trusted insiders suggest that while the relationship is real and progressing, the final signature is not publicly confirmed.
