Perez Secured for 2024 Finale, Red Bull Future Uncertain

Marko Confirms Perez Until Abu Dhabi, Future in Doubt

01/11/2024

Red Bull holds Perez until season’s end; Marko hints at an uncertain future beyond Abu Dhabi, sparking speculations on 2025 plans.

Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko stated that Sergio Perez would not be ousted before the end of the 2024 season.

“You’ll see me in Vegas, you’ll see me next year, and beyond that, it’s not my concern,” Perez commented yesterday in the Sao Paulo paddock.

While putting to rest rumors that Brazil could be the Mexican’s last race as Max Verstappen’s teammate, Marko admits that Perez might never actually start his contract signed for 2025.

“We are currently evaluating everything, but decisions will only be made after Abu Dhabi.”

Marko hints that Perez’s current form won’t be enough to secure his seat.

“The drop to third place in the Constructors’ Championship, the 200 points behind Max Verstappen, all that speaks volumes.”

“The Constructors’ title is now completely unrealistic. For the moment, Ferrari has the fastest car and two strong drivers.”

Marko suggested that Perez has become a financial burden for Red Bull.

“The difference between first and third place is 17 million euros. That’s a serious financial blow, especially for the employees, as their bonuses are based on the Constructors’ Championship.”

Perez complained in the last two races that his Red Bull wasn’t up to Verstappen’s, adding that he struggled to slow the car down at the end of straights.

“We’ve examined everything because he mentioned brake and chassis issues. I think he’s even getting a new chassis now to calm him down.”

Liam Lawson has clearly been positioned as the favorite to take his place at Red Bull Racing for 2025.

If Perez is sidelined, Isack Hadjar is in the running for a seat at RB F1 next year.

“The Abu Dhabi tests will be crucial for his future (Hadjar). There will also be a number of drivers who could be considered for next year.”

When asked if Hadjar is ready for Formula 1, Marko replied: “Yes, absolutely. He was faster than Franco Colapinto in all junior categories.”
