Perez Reflects on Unexpected Departure from Red Bull

Perez Speaks Out: Shocked by Red Bull Racing Exit

11/01/2025

Sergio Perez breaks his silence, admitting he was blindsided by Red Bull Racing’s decision to replace him for 2024.

Sergio Perez has spoken publicly for the first time about losing his seat at Red Bull Racing.

The Mexican was dropped by his team due to insufficient performance and will be replaced by Liam Lawson this year.

In his initial comments, Perez refrained from delving into the details of his departure, with Christian Horner revealing that he would remain part of the Red Bull family to perform demo runs in an older F1 car (and potentially other undefined roles).

“Everything happened very quickly at the end of last season. I didn’t expect to leave the team,” he said, despite all speculation being against him.

Will he treat 2025 as a simple sabbatical year?

“It’s too early to give an answer about whether I plan to return to Formula 1.”

“My priority is to take time for myself, enjoy life, do things I haven’t done yet, and be with my family. In the next six months, I will decide what I want as the next step in my career.”

“Because in F1, all you think about is becoming a better driver and wanting to prepare better. Then, you have no time for anything else.”
