Sergio Pérez views ninth place as progress, focusing on bridging the gap to the leaders during the opening stages of the Qatar race.
Ninth, 0.905 seconds behind his teammate Max Verstappen on pole, Sergio Pérez was relatively satisfied with his Qatar qualifying performance. The Red Bull driver feels there’s room for improvement but noted progress compared to the rest of the weekend.
“It was good progress, considering where we were and the car’s disconnected balance earlier. There’s still work to do to piece everything together,” Pérez said.
Despite starting from the fifth row, he aims to clear the cars ahead and stay close to the leaders early in the race, targeting involvement with the front pack during the first stint.
“I think we should be competitive and have good pace to stay with the right group. Hopefully, early in the race, we’ll mix with the leaders.”
