Pérez Laments Costly Error That Lost Him Front Row in Miami

04/05/2024

Sergio Pérez laments a key mistake during the Miami GP qualifying, which cost him a front-row start.

Sergio Pérez qualified fourth, behind Max Verstappen and the two Ferrari drivers. The Red Bull Racing team member believes the front row was within his reach if not for a minor error that relegated him to fourth.

“It was quite tricky, unfortunately, my Q3 wasn’t clean. I made a small mistake at turn 8 that cost me at least the front row. We didn’t maximize the session, but I’m optimistic; I missed the front row by just a few hundredths,” Pérez stated.

“But that’s how it is, the gaps are super tight, we made some mistakes in the way we set up the car before qualifying, and we’ll give everything to understand the issues. But we are getting much closer now.”

The Mexican acknowledges it will be challenging for him to overtake the Ferraris, who have been formidable from the start of the weekend: “It will be quite difficult because they are strong, they have a good pace, but it will be an interesting battle with them tomorrow.”
