After a dismal 10th place in Singapore, Sergio Perez calls for pivotal changes at Red Bull, eyeing future tracks.
Sergio Perez expressed frustration with his Red Bull’s performance after finishing 10th at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Mexican managed only a 13th-place qualifying position on the grid after being eliminated from Q2 on Saturday and struggled to advance during the race on Sunday.
A strong start propelled Perez into the top 10, but he had to settle for just one point for his efforts after failing to move further up the field.
“Unfortunately, we just couldn’t maximize the result. It was a pity.”
“It’s now time to look forward to the next races of the season because as I said, it has been a real nightmare, a disaster in terms of balance. I struggled a lot.”
“Given the difficulty of overtaking, we should really be a bit further ahead. It was really tough being stuck behind Nico Hulkenberg – it was a total disaster to be behind for the entire race. It was quite painful.”
“It was really a shame, after passing three cars at the start, the race got complicated.”
“It was frustrating and I think we missed the strategy a bit. I struggled a lot with the car’s bouncing and balance, it wasn’t settling down, I had a real problem with that.”
“It’s a shame that we qualified so far from our position and we know what we did wrong – so we need to go back to Austin, as the pace should be much better on a standard circuit.”
Perez felt that Red Bull kept him on the track too long before pitting, hoping to capitalize on a safety car that never materialized.
“Looking back, we probably stayed out too long in the first stint, unfortunately, and that meant we lost positions.”
And Perez believes Red Bull needs a “significant upgrade” to compete with McLaren and Ferrari after losing ground in both championships.
“I think we need a significant upgrade, which is coming in Austin. The upcoming tracks should be better for us, so I hope we can have a stronger package to counter Ferrari and catch up to McLaren.”
