Perez Anticipates Speedy Talks on Red Bull Future

Perez Anticipates Speedy Talks on Red Bull Future

18/04/2024

Sergio Perez is set for a swift discussion on his future at Red Bull amidst a fast-evolving market.

Sergio Perez is optimistic about retaining his spot at Red Bull and believes his future in F1 will be settled by a “quick conversation.”

The Mexican is one of several drivers without a contract for next year and entered the new season under immense pressure to keep his seat alongside Max Verstappen.

However, a strong start to 2024 has eased some of the focus on Perez. In addition to finishing fifth in Australia, he completed a Red Bull one-two behind Verstappen in the other three rounds.

After his latest podium at the Japanese Grand Prix, Perez stated he hoped to have clarity on his future within “a month.”

Following the Suzuka race, Aston Martin announced that Fernando Alonso would stay with the team at least until 2026, thus removing a potential rival for Perez’s seat.

“Every week, the competitor changes,” Perez joked this Thursday before the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend.

“But that’s normal, I think when things are not signed, everyone is in contention.”

When asked if he was optimistic about his future with Red Bull after Dr. Marko’s positive comments today (read here), Perez replied: “Yes, I am.”

“We have been together for a few years now and I think it will be a quick conversation to see which direction we are going. We all want to continue, so I expect it to be a matter of time rather than who (to replace me).”

“Given the market’s evolution, things are starting much faster than any of us would have liked, but that’s how the game is playing out right now.”
