Pierre Gasly reflects on his journey and growth ahead of a milestone 150th race, embracing an unwavering passion for F1.
Pierre Gasly marks his 150th Grand Prix milestone this weekend. The Alpine F1 driver took a moment to reflect on seven years at the sport’s pinnacle and recall his first call-up in Formula 1.
“It’s special. I see myself in F1 for the next ten years, so I suppose it’s just a number. I’ve been contracted for 151 Grands Prix but have taken 150 starts, which is a bit confusing, as we didn’t start at Silverstone this year,” Gasly remarked.
“I’ve learned a lot. I still remember arriving in the paddock in Malaysia in 2017. I was a reserve driver and got a call from Helmut [Marko] to race that weekend.”
“Entering the paddock was the first time I saw so many people waiting and photographing me. I thought, ‘I’m in with the big boys now!’ I was much more naive then, but the love and passion for our sport have never changed, and that’s the most important thing. I’m more motivated than ever.”
Can Alpine catch up to Williams? Gasly hopes so, but after a challenging season, the Frenchman seems somewhat disillusioned with his team’s situation.
“It seems possible. We’re talking about four points, and I never thought I’d be here discussing and wondering if we could score four points in four races! But in a season like this, with 14 points, it’s a lot. It’s a big goal, but it’s not impossible.”
