Oscar Piastri is determined to refine his skills and fight at the front in 2025, learning from past struggles to reach new heights.
Piastri is gearing up for a crucial 2025 season, determined to build on the lessons from his first two years in Formula 1. The McLaren driver sees a clear path forward—refining his strengths and eliminating past weaknesses.
Learning from the Past
Reflecting on his journey so far, Piastri admits his two seasons have been quite different. “To be honest, both years had their own challenges. Last season, I made things harder for myself in qualifying for a good part of the year,” he shared.
But despite those struggles, he believes he made significant progress in other areas. “I felt I improved as a driver in many ways and was able to showcase what I’m capable of. Now, it’s about putting everything together and stepping up across the board.”
Focus on Qualifying
One key area for improvement? Saturday performances. “Making sure I qualify a bit better is probably a priority,” he admitted. “But there are also things I can refine that will help not just in qualifying but in my overall race performance.”
His goal is clear: consistency. “When I do everything right, I know I can be one of the best on track. The challenge is making sure I bring my best every single time I drive.”
A Tight Battle Ahead
Looking ahead, Piastri expects an intense fight on the grid but remains cautious about predicting how close the competition will be. “2013 wasn’t a particularly tight season, so there’s no guarantee this one will be. But based on how last year ended, with different teams winning races, everything suggests it’s going to be close.”
He knows unpredictability will play a huge role. “Track to track, you just don’t know. Last year, we often expected to be in the mix for a win but didn’t always know who our main rival would be. The competition shifted constantly.”
With teams pushing development limits and fine-tuning upgrades, Piastri anticipates another challenging season. “We’ve seen teams struggle with updates, trying to extract the most performance possible. I think everyone is aware of that risk. It’s going to be tough—front to back.”
As the 2025 season approaches, Piastri isn’t just aiming to compete—he’s striving to elevate himself to the very top.
