Oscar Piastri trusted Norris to return his lead, confident of reclaiming his Hungarian victory.
Oscar Piastri expressed after the podium in Hungary, with slightly less adrenaline following his victory, that he could understand why Lando Norris might have wanted to maintain the lead until the end of the race.
Ultimately, the Australian regained first place with two laps remaining.
“I had great confidence in both the team and Lando.”
“Lando was quick towards the end, that much was clear, but the strategies we adopted effectively resulted in an undercut for him, and I believe it was a fair decision to swap positions at the end.”
“We had extensive discussions last night and this morning about how the race would unfold. We were free to compete against each other and both aim for the win as long as we finished first and second, and I think that’s more or less what we achieved.”
“I believe thorough planning, numerous fruitful discussions, and open dialogues have built a great deal of confidence and respect between us, allowing us to not worry about situations like this.”
“From Lando’s perspective, I could understand his desire to keep his position. Naturally, that’s entirely understandable.”
“From my standpoint, I did everything right in the first half of the race up to the last pit stop, and the only reason we pitted the cars as we did was to cover the strategies of different drivers, which naturally meant he had to undercut me.”
“Of course, it’s never the easiest thing to grasp, but I think we all have enough respect and confidence to understand the reasons behind this situation, no matter which side we are on.”
