Oscar Piastri’s home race turned into heartbreak as a sudden downpour cost him a podium, leaving the Australian frustrated but focused on the positives.
Oscar Piastri shared his thoughts after finishing ninth at the Australian Grand Prix.
The young Australian was on track for at least a podium in his home race but, like his teammate, got caught out by a sudden rain shower. Unfortunately, he lost significant time trying to recover.
“Pretty disappointing. I felt like I had an incredibly strong race every single lap—except for one. It’s frustrating not to get the result to match that effort.”
“I can only blame myself. I was a bit unlucky getting stuck [in the grass] like that, but at the end of the day, it was my mistake. Obviously, I’m disappointed.”
“On the bright side, the other 56 laps were really strong. I felt like I had good pace in all conditions, and that’s what I’ll try to take away from this race.”
“Lando made the right call with his pit stop. Even in my case, despite spending nearly a minute trying to reverse, we ultimately made the right decision. It’s just a shame that we couldn’t get a better overall result—both for the team and for myself.”
