British driver Ollie Bearman will, as expected, take the wheel of Kevin Magnussen’s Haas VF-24 next weekend in Baku, Azerbaijan, following the suspension of the Danish pilot.
Bearman, who will be one of the two main drivers for the American team in 2025, is already familiar with the car he will pilot next weekend, having participated in four free practice sessions this year, with two more to complete in the program arranged by Haas.
The F2 driver will not be making his first Grand Prix appearance, as he previously stepped in for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, when the Spaniard suffered an appendicitis attack. Finishing seventh, Bearman made a strong impression, having only been introduced to his car during Free Practice 3.
The race suspension imposed by the FIA on Kevin Magnussen comes after he accumulated his eleventh and twelfth penalty points, due to a collision with Pierre Gasly at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
The regulations being clear on this matter, Magnussen is thus unable to race in Baku due to his twelve penalty points, but he will be able to return at the Singapore Grand Prix with a clean license.
To date, the Danish driver does not have a seat for next year, with Haas confirming Esteban Ocon alongside Ollie Bearman.
No F2 for Bearman
Next weekend, Bearman will team up with Haas F1’s other main driver, Nico Hülkenberg. Another formidable benchmark to measure against, after competing in a Grand Prix as teammate to Charles Leclerc.
Consequently, the young talent will miss the two F2 races also taking place on the streets of the Azerbaijani capital. He had already had to withdraw in Jeddah at the start of the season to replace Sainz, despite having secured pole position at what was the season’s second meeting.
