A visor tear-off lodged in Ocon’s brake duct led to an unplanned pit stop, derailing his shot at points despite a competitive showing.
Esteban Ocon was forced to make an additional pit stop beyond what was planned when a visor tear-off got lodged in a brake duct of his Alpine F1 car. He is convinced that, without this issue, he could have been in contention for points.
“It’s a pity, because we had to make an extra stop due to a tear-off stuck in a rear brake duct, causing the brake to catch fire,” lamented the French driver. “Points were within reach as I was in a group with Albon and Magnussen, and ahead of Hülkenberg.”
“Hence, we probably had a chance to score points given how the race was unfolding, especially since I was ahead of Magnussen before the stop, battling with Albon. Today, and throughout this weekend, the car felt somewhat better, which indicates we’re making progress.”
“We’re advancing step by step, and we’ll continue in Japan, an event I’m particularly looking forward to as it’s one of my favorite circuits and the fans make the experience even more special. We’ll have updates, following the long-planned development strategy.”
